The Ex Arsenalllllllllle Pontificio is a newly proposed cultural museum situated along the Western bank of the Tiber River in Rome, on the south end of the Trastevere neighbourhood, and at the starting point of Porta Portese. The site holds three historic buildings, including the Arsenale where ships were mended; the Corderie where cords were manufactured; and the Salé where salt was stored. The proposed museum works within the void between these three buildings, excavating existing topography to subvert the urban condition down to the river level connecting the community to the environment; and providing a new green park at the urban level to connect the enivronemnt back to the city. The permament exhibition is primarly outdoors, displaying both the city’s and the site’s history, a new building is proposed on the south end of the site to house what cannot be displayed in nature. The subterranian building curves around an urban plaza, creating a lookout point at the city level to enjoy views of the TIber.
